REVALUATION OF LAND.

SOLDIERS SETTLEMENT AREAS THE DISTRICT COMMITTEES. DIRECTIONS TO APPLICANTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The action being taken under the provisions of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Amendment Act, 1923, was the subject of a statement by the Hon. W. Nosworthy to-day. Mr. J. B. Thompson, Under-Secretary of Lands, was, by the Act, chairman of the Dominion Revaluation Board, and the appointment of Mr. P. W. Flanagan, Valuer-General, and Mr. E. A. Kodger, of Tapanui, Otago, as members of the board, appeared in this week's "Gazette." The fourth member of the Dominion Board would be appointed at an early date. Action was being taken for the constitution of dietriet revaluation committees, and, in the larger districts, it was the intention to appoint at least two district committees. The Act provided for the issue of regulations prescribing forms of application for revaluation, etc., and such regulations had been prepared and would be gazetted at the earliest opportunity. The necessary forms were being printed, and a circular letter, together with a copy of the application form, will be forwarded to every soldier farmer coming within the scope of the Act. The circular letter and the application form had been passed for printing, and it was expected they would be distributed next week. Applications, when returned, would be scheduled and arranged in order of settlements or districts, so that district committees might commence their duties as soon as they were set up. Soldier settlers under the Act had the right at any time within six months from the passing of the Act—any time up to and including February 28 next— to make application for revaluation, but, in the interests of all parties, it was desirable that soldiers should make early application. Everything possible had been done to arrange the machinery for the working of the Act, and application forms should be in the hands of soldier settlers toward the end of next week.
