For September delivery whites are now quoted at £8 15/ to £9 per ton to farmers, but are hard to get even at these prices. Dakotas are quoted up to £8 15/. The advance is due mostly to the Tact that over-sellers are endeavourlnr to meet their commitments. It is generally thought there are not many potatoes In the country. IT there were it is stated rarmers would have a good inducement to sell at the present time, when prices have reached such a figure. Boats to load Tor Auckland next week at Lyttelton are the Navua and Wingatui, while the Kamo Is taking cargo Tor Napier and Gisborne. In previous years when potatoes have been at a high llgurc. hotel and restaurant keepers have been sMe to use only a small proportion of potatoes, mailing- up the quota of vegetables supplied to guests with green vegetables, but, owing to these having also reached an unusually high price this year. it Is cheaper to use potatoes in larger quantities. This had accounted to some extent Tor the demand Tor potatoes keeping up despite the present ngure. Both milling wheat and rowl wheat are In demand. There has been so little good milling available lately that any fowl wheat that Is or good standard has been accepted as milling, with the result that there is a scarcity or rowl wheat. in i-ocksrout better business baa been done during the past rew days, but only small parcels have changed hands. The position is unchanged so rar as white clover Is concerned, owing to rarmeru asking- too hiyn a price Tor undressed seed.
