AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. I

REPORT AND BALAJiCSS-*HEET. A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. ] The annual report and balance sheet to be presented to the members at the ■] annual general meeting of the Auckland Racing Club on Monday, the 13th inst., states that another successful year was experienced. For the four race meetings held by the club prize money was given to the amount of £71,000, and notwith- t standing the adverse weather conditions c prevailing almost throughout the year t each meeting was a success, and the t large stakes provided were, no doubt, j responsible for the keen competition and \ interesting racing which took place. £ The new totalizator houee, completed in , the spring, says the report, now gives ( ample accommodation for the investing i > public, and. together with the new I j machine, which permits of further extensions as called for. should meet re- ' quirements for some years. The altera- ' tions to the members' stand, carried out ! during the year, were much appreciated. ' and the extra accommodation provided j ( should be sufficient to meet the needs of j ' the increased membership next season. ' Although the revenue shows a decrease 1 compared with recent years, depreciation ' has been provided fof to the extent of ' f3024 17/8. and a balance remains of 1 £462 Ifl/e. to be transferred to capital i account. It is with deep regret that i the committee have to record a heavy death roll of members during the year, notably Mr. H. T. Gonie, for many years vice-president of the club, Messrs. Robert H. Ihider. M. Foley, H. H. Hayr. Sir William 11. Merries and Sir Robert Nolan. Mr. 11. O. Nolan was appointed to fill Mr. Gorrie's place er vice-presi-dent, and Mr. (.', A. Brown was elected : to the vacant wnt on the committee. The Hon. Sir Kdwin Mitrhelnon and Mr. H. O. Nolan arc the only nominees for j the oflices of president and vice-president respectively, and will be declared duly ] elected. *For the three seats on the j stewards Mes»r«. M. T. Lynch, L. C. i Rathbbone and t>. A. Wynyard have l>een j nominated, and they also will be de- j clared duly elected. In accordance with the rules Messrs. R. W. Duder, .7. D. I Jones, N. Alfred Nathan, E. A. Price, | and Dr. A. McGregor (.rant retire from the committee, nnd all offer themselves for re-election. Messrs. J. M. Carpenter, . H. B. Philcox and Dr. E. H. B. Milsom j have ale* been nominated, and the num- j ber of nominations being in excess of ' the number of seats to be filled, a ballot will be necessary. The annual meeting will be held at the Chamber of Commerce, Swanson Street, on Monday, 13th August, at 2.30 p.m., and the ballot will close at 3.30 p.m. THE BALANCE SHEET.
