ILLEGAL RAILWAY CHARGE.
REFUNDS TO MERCHANTS. SEVERAL THOUSAND POUNDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WiANGANUI, this day. Aβ .the result of a decision by the railway authorities arising out of a recent judgment in favour of Hatrick and Co. and against the Railway Department, in a now historic case regarding sorting charges, the Department had decided to make refunds to local merchants to the amount of several thousand pounds, representing sorting charges paid since-1918 to the time of the judgment of the Privy Council delivered in Xovember, 1922. In order to do so it will be necessary for legislation to lie p,ww»d this session.
