MALTBY MINE TRAGEDY.
VIOLENT GAS FIRES. MINE TO BE CLOSED. LONDON, July 31. The cause of the fatal explosion at the Maltby Main Colliery has not been definitely ascertained, but it is believed that it was due to the ignition of an accumuation of gas in the mine by a naked light.
The fire is still burning fiercely, and the mine is being sealed. — (A. and N.Z.)
