WATERSIDE WORKERS.
THE NEW REGIME. TROUBLE IS WELLIXGTOX. The deposition of Mr. L. Glover, president of the Wellington Waterside Works' Union, in favour of Mr. E. Brigden, after a seven years' term of office, eaye the "Dominion" of Tuesday, has caused quite a sensation amongst members of the union, for only about a third of the members voted for the successful candidate. The result of the election was a topic of conversation yesterday amongst waterside workers, one of whom pointed, out that on tbe first ballot Mr. Glover headed the list, and that the supporters of Messrs. L. Treniayne and E. Brigden evidently combined in the letter's favour in awarding their second preference vote.
It is stated that Mr. Brigden's active participation in the opposition to the new system of working on the waterfront and the £1 levy on members had a great deal to do "with hie election. He was a member of the executive three years ago.
Some trouble was looked for on Saturday when a request was made for men to work coal on the Arawa on Sunday. The word had gone Tound that the union discouraged work on Sundays, un less in case of extreme emergency; but no difficulty was found in obtaining the number of men required, and the work proceeded smoothly.
