THROUGH OTIRA TUNNEL.
NEW RAILWAY TIMETABLES NO SPECIAL CHARGES. (By Telegraph.—Preee Amroctatlon.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The new time table for the railway between Canterbury and West Coasi comes into operation on Monday, August t>. It provides for an express train tc Christchurch and Greymouth, connecting with the train at Hokitika on Mondays Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; connection with Ross on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and Rewanui on Saturdays. A saving of two hours fiftytwo minutes will be effected on the present time by making the journej from Christchurch to Grevmouth through the Otira Tunnel. It is expected that control of the tunnel section will be transferred from the Public Works to the Railway Department on the opening day. Charges for goods will be the same as those charged for similar distances on any other section of railway in the Dominion, and there will be no special tunnel charges.
