I A Masonic function held last evening in a northern subiirb maintained the beet I traditions of the fraternity in the way !of help to brethren in distress. Despite the awful weather a goodly crowd gathered, many coming from afar in vehicles of all sorts, with the result that the entrance became soft and slippery with the churned-up mud. Thia was painfully evident when time came to disband the function. The motor cars simply would not start on the soft ground, the wheels slithering helplessly in futile endeavour. Picture tlien the spectacle of the loyal brotherhood in evening dress and outfit unitedly putting their shoulders to each recalcitrant wheel in darkness and pouring rain from midnight until about two a.m., heedless of muddied garments and other bodily discomforts. Needless to say it was an unenviable experience long to be remembered by all participants. Hare you tried "Monarch" Bacon? It is rapidly coining into general favour through its excellence and its delicious mild flavour. —(Ad.)
