BRAWL ON A STEAMER.
JANSLAUGHTER CHARGE FOLLOWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , GREYMOUTH, Friday. In the Supreme Court, Charles Michael Doyle was tried on charges of manslaughter, assault with intent to commit jodily harm, and assault causing bodily iarm. He pleaded not guilty. The case arose out of the death of iVilliam Henry Simpson, a seaman on :he steamer Kaituna, on May 11, at the lospital, following a surgical operation n connection with injuries to the shoulder received by Simpson in a brawl m the steamer on the night of April 2. The prosecution alleged that thp iceused assaulted and threw the deceased >ver his shoulder, causing dislocation of the shoulder, with lacerated bloodressels, causing internal hemorrhage: ilso that death was due to the shock of :he operation and loss of blood. The jury, after a three hours' retirement, acquitted the accused on all ;ounts.
