HALF-A-CENTURY OF WORK.

LATE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER. In Wellington on Monday last a meeting of the staff of the Government Insurance Department was held for the purpose of farewelling Mr. J. H. Richardson, late Government Insurance Com-mis-eioner. on the occasion of his retire ment. The Minister in charge of tht Department. Hon. J. G. Coates, presided, and conveyed to the commissioner the feelings, not only of the staff, .but also of the Government. Mr. Richardson had had the confidence of all Governments, and it was rceo?nised throughout the Dominion that the Government insurance and other departments associated with it owed their euccess in a grent measure to the knowledge and experience and exceptional ability of the re- , tiring commissioner. The Public Service Commissioner. Mr. ' P. Vereehaffelt, endorsed the remarks of the Minister, and wished Mr. Richardson long- life and the rest he had earned.
