BIRTHDAY HONOURS,

INVESTITURE BY GOVERNOR. A BRILLIANT SCENE. There was a brilliant scene at Government House last evening when the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe. held an investiture and presented Orders and Decorations conferred by His Majesty the King. The recipients were:— Knight Bachelor. —Sir George Elliot, 0.8. E., of Auckland. 0.8. E. (Civil Division).—Mr. P. E. Suttie, of Papatoetoe. Albert Medal.—-Mr. Charles Chapman, of Rotorua. Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' De-coration.—Lieut.-Colonel J. Hardie Xeil, D.5.0., of Auckland; Captain E. E. Willoughby, of Auckland. There was a large gathering of relatives and friends of the recipients, as well as other guests of their Excellencies, and the party was subsequently entertained at a reception in honour of the King's Birthday. Many of those present wore orders and decorations, which, with the. military uniforms, made the ceremony very imposing. After their Excellencies entered the ballroom Captain Curtis read the King's Warrant, after which Lord Jsllicoe handed Sir George Elliot his Letters Patent of Knighthood, and presented the other Orders. The evening concluded with an enjoyable musical programme.
