SAILOR DROWNED.

FELL OFF WESTERN WHARF. When returning to his ship, the Union Company's Koromiko, berthed at the Western wharf, a seaman named Patrick Gunn fell voer the. edge of the wharf last evening and was drowned. He was walking close to the edge of the wharf at the time and overbalanced. Two seamen named Ryan and Collins jumped in After Gunn, and eventually the latter "vas got up on to the wharf where artificial respiration was carried on for some time, but without success. Gunn liad a bad cut on the head, and had evidently struck part of the wharf when he fell, the blow rendering him unconscious. Gur.n was a man of over 60 years, and he leaves a widow and family of three living in Martin Square, Wellington.

Patrick Ryan, who went to Gunn'a assistance, is a man of over 50, and he also evidently struck something in the ■water as he got into difficulties. It was afterwards found that he had injured a rib, and he had to be taken to the hospital.

An inquest is being held on the body of Patrick Gunn this afternoon.
