VALUE OF HERD TESTING.

PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION. The value of herd testing was evidenced 'by the si'rcesa experienced by both buyers and yellcrs nt the dairy sale of Mr. Wright held at Matangi on Friday—the herd of upwards of 100 caws (not pedigrees) averaged £24 each, the highest reaching the very satisfactory figure of £53. Schmidt, eecretary of the Waikato branch of the Farmers' Union, remarked the cows were cold absolutely on their merits and the Herd Testing Association certificate was handed to the buyer with each cow. This certificate showed the amount of butterfat, the number of days the cow had been milked, age, treed, description and also tlio association marks which, were ibranded on the animal, ilr. Schmidt also stated 'that after the eale of tested animals, several cows which had not been tested failed to bring anything like the prices which the former realised despite the fact that they were described by their owners ac good cows. The value of 'herd testing continued Mr. Schmidt is absolutely beyond doubt ana has opened up a new system of guarantee to the purchasers of dairy cattle. Applications for the formation of groups and for propaganda relating to the association's system are coming from all parte of New Zealand and with a unanimity of system throughout the Dominion the associajtion will have accomplished a work of national importance.
