A councillor asked the Mayor at last night's meeting of the council whether the money the Government allocated for housing purposes was still available, and whether the corporation could get £10.000 a year at 4* per cent. The Mayor: "N"o. the Government's fund went dry. The only money they had to lend was from the Advances Department, which uas being repaid by various borrowers. That was a very limited amount." Tile Mayor added that the Government had promised to bring in fresh legislation. This might, result in the replenishment of the fund. The City Council bad bail quite a difficult job to get the small amount it ""as allowed.
