GIFT OF FRENCH BOOKS.
TO AUCKLAND LIBRARY AND SCHOOLS. The French Government haß just sent, through the Consulate in Auckland, a collection of books, as a gift, to the Public Libraries at Christchurch and Wellington. It will be remembered that, last year, a similar gift was made to the University Colleges, Public Libraries and French Clubs of Auckland and of the chief cities of the Dominion. Further, with a view of encouraging tho study of the French language in this country, Monsieur Paul Serre, the Consul at Auckland, is now making a new , distribution of prize books to the best scholars in the French classes of the principal boys and girls' Colleges in ; Auckland.
