OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho fortnightly meeting or the Otahuhu | Borough Council was held last evening, the j Mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd) presiding. A deputation of ratepayers of Hokenul ; Estate waited upon the Council ln regard to footpaths recently opened up for laying of water pipes, and which, owing to the wet weather, have become almost impassable. They also asked Tor better lighting of the locality. The matter reeelved favourable consideration, and was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. A report from the Works Committee recommended that the footpath on the south . side of lower Portage Road be cleared for a width or 4ft, coated with fine scoria to a depth or 21n, and blinded with road ,• sweepings or other suitable material, the • total cost not to 'exceed £25, and that street lamps be erected In the positions mentioned below as funds are available: Corner Luke and Church Streets, corner :anal and Great South Roads, corner , Avenue Road and Hutton Street, corner ■j i'oir Avenue and Mlddlemore Road, corner [ Pukeltl Road and Hokemal Road, corner i Park Road and Queon Street. Tho commlttee further recommended that the Mount Wellington Road Board be asked to contribute hair the cost or the erection ■ and maintenance of a lamp at the corner ■ of Portage and Panmure Roads.
