FOOD FRICES.
■ Butter remains at 1/9 per lb retail for cash across the counter, first grade being 1/8 and second grade 1/7 per lb. Fresh hen eggs are still in very short supply, and sell readily at 3/6 per dozen retail. Ducks are now 'beginning to lay, but there is an unsatisfied demand for ben eggs at the higher price. Chilled eggs are selling at 2/6 per dozen for cooking purposes. Cheese has not declined in sympathy with the London market. Retail prices range from 1/2 to 1/4 per lb, according to maturity, and 1/6 is asked for special brands. Supplies of bacon and bams are equal to this market's requirements. Bacon sells retail at B_d to 1/2 per lb for cuts, and 1/2 to 1/4 for rashers. Whole hams are quoted at 1/1 to 1/3 per lb retail and 1/7 to 1/S per lb in rashers.
