QUEEN STREET FATALITY.

CHARGES OF MANSLAUGHTER, NO REDUCTION OF BAIL. INQUEST ON MONDAY. Sydney Murphy (36) and Thomas Lawrence McQuoid (36), the two alleged occupants of a motor-car, which is said to have run over an elderly widow in Upper Queen Street on the night of May 8, were again before Mr. J. \V. Poynton, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, charged with having committed manslaughter by killing Mrs. Elizabeth __arples. Senior-Detective Cummings applied for t remand till Monday next, intimating that the coroner (Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.JI.) would be prepared to proceed with the inquest on that date. Mr. A. V. Fraer, who appeared for Jlurphy (nileged to have been the driver of the car), asked that bail be renewed. The application was granted. Mr. A. H. \Tohnstone said he was instructed to.ask for a reduction in the amount of bail fixed in McQuoid's rase (£500). There was nothing to implythat he had been concerned in the killing of deceased, and bail might very easily be.reduced. Senior-Detective Cummings: I leave it to your Worship. Mr. Poynton, S.M.: I don't see why I should reduce the amount of bail. It is a very serious charge — manslaughter. The charges before mc are that the accused committed manslaughter. It is not for mc to decide at this juncture who was responsible. Bail as before, £500.
