POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M.) HOBSON'S CHOICE, Thomas Phillip Walker (20) was given the option of paying £4 14/0 or doing two months at Mount Eden because he broke windows in two houses yesterday—but really he had no option, because he was hustled straight away to the "black Maria," en route for a threemonths' sojourn up on the hill, for having trespassed on premises occupied by his wife during the currency of a separation order. It was sliown that Walker went to the house where Mrs. Walker lived and tried to force an entrance. She locked the back door, and that started hostilities. Denied access, Walker bombarded the back windows, and then went to the front of the house where he smashed a few more, doing damage to the extent of £2 17/. While Walker was busy making work for the glazier at the front. Mrs. Walker walked out at the back. Later, Walker betook himself to another house, where he was known. Here he demanded tea, j was denied, and so re-commenced the
window smashing activities with a big I brandy bottle, doing damage to the ex- I tent of fl 17/0. "He has threatened to put a shot into mc!" declared Mrs. I Walker. His Worship thought Walker would be better out of the way. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Karaka Kerapa, a young native, was remanded to appear at Huntly on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. Bail wpe allowed in one surety of £200. COULDN'T BTJY SILENCE. Hop _ Sing, a lanky Chinese boy, pleaded guilty to cruelly ill-treating a horse by driving it with a sore on its shoulder. The inspector for the S.P.C.A.. who brought the prosecution, stated that he spoke to Sing at Nwmarket, and pointed out to him that the horse had been driven all the way from Tamaki West when it was suffering. Sing tried to bribe the inspector not -to report the matter. He produced a 10/ note, and tried to press it on the
official, who. however, was not to be bought, and the offering was raised to £1. The inspector walked away, but Sing, still proffering his hush money, i followed him to Albert Street ere he; realised that silence might be golden, but it couldn't be bought. "Second time you've been here lately for this, Sing. Fined £3 this time, but"gaol next time! ,, said the magistrate. INDECENCY. Steven Joseph Cunningham (3!)) was fined £3, in default seven days, for committing an indecent act in Victoria i Street.
