ANTI-OPIUM CAMPAIGN.
WORK OF THE UJAG-17E. ASSISTANCE FROM AMERICA. WASHINGTON, May 3. Thr Secretary of Stnte (Mr. C. E. Hughes) lias designated a committee headed by Mr. Porter to attend the International Opium Conference at Geneva on May 20. The committee "ill follow closely the policy of the resolution of Congress, Which asked the President to urge Britain, Turkey, Persia, Peru. Bolivia, and the Netherlands to limit the production of habit-form ing drugs and raw materials from which they are manufactured to an amount necessary for medical and scientific purposes. It "ill suggest an international convention governing the production and distribution of narcotics, and will also lie prepared to co-operate with the conference in every way possible, thouffh it is essentially ft body operating under the auspices of the League of Nations.— (A. nnd X.Z.
