RETAIL MEAT PRICES.
BEEF LOWER AXD MUTTON HIGHER. Jn consequence of the present comparatively low prices ruling in the local market for fat cattle, the master 'butchers of Auckland are able to reduce the retail prices of beef. It has, however, been found necessary, in consequence of the scarcity of mutton, to make a slight advance in the retail prices of this commodity. The amended rates, which take effect "as from Monday, May 7, will 'be found in detail in the advertising columns of this issue. The reduction in the price of the prime joints of beef is from 3d to Id per lb, while some of the cheaper cuts are simiI larly reduced in price. In mutton the increase made is from Jd to Id per lb on most of the lines.
