ASSEMBLY REJECTS SALT TAX.
VICEROY TO IMPOSE IT. REFORMS IN DANGER. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Oo;yrlght. ; I (Kcceived 11.30 n.m.\ DELHI, March 26. There was another exciting debate in the Legislative Assembly! when the Finance Bill, including the salt tax, came back for reconsideration. The Assembly devoted the whole morning almost to salt, and eventually rejected the tax by 58 to 47". The Government now has no alternative but to restore the tax by i the Viceroy's certificate, which it is j thought probable, will be done iramediiately, despite Indian.,protests that it will I wreck the reforms. The rejection of the ealt tax was rejeeived with loud and enthusiastic nonI official applause.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
