(Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 25. The "Daily Chronicle" says that the port of London authority has arranged a five million loan to begin a big programme of improvements employing a large number of unemployed. The works projected include a six-storey wool warehouse at the western branch London docks, two three-storey sheds at Shadwell Basin and also the turning basin between the east, west and south docks and a grain depot at Millwall Dock, with a capacity of forty thousand tons. The port authority also proposes to construct a floating passenger landing stage at Tilbury, seventeen hundred feet long, enabling the largest ships to land passengers at any state of the tide. The authority is preparing plans for another great dock on the north side of Victoria and Albert Docks, which will be 12 acres in extent and forty-five feet deep, also an extension of the Tilbury Docks, including a dock with a water area of 138 acres and three miles of quays. Continuous work is going on deepening the channel from London Bridfre to the Xore. Betweer Albert Dock and the Xore there is now a channel six hundred feet wide with thirty feet of water at low tide.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
