"He really is not a criminal, but is a stupid man when he takes drink," was Mr. A. 11. John-. ston 's plea for accused. His Honor: The question is whether I . should sentence him to a period of reforillative treatment. This I would do if the period of imprisonment was out of the way. Mr. Paterson stated that accused had already shown that lie did not appreciate his probation. Mr. Johnston mentioned that rctri- j button money had not been kept up be- j cause accused could not earn sufficient in the country. Mr. Campbell (Probation Officer) j stated that when accused had money he ' appeared to dissipate it iv drink. His Honor said that he was afraid he could not extend any further consideration to accused. ITe ■would sentence accused to IS months' reformative detention on the expiry of his present sentence.
