SPECIALIST VULCANISERS
KOAC. AND SIMM, LTD. AN ENTERPRISING FIRM. A few years ago the re-treading of motor tyres hy the vulcanising process was not regarded with much confidence by motorists, hut that estimation has boon effectively met by modern methods of treatment, in which Messrs. lloag and Simm, Ltd., tyre specialists and viileanisers, at 10-21, Lome Street, Auckland, j have played a leading part. This i'lm. which started operations in Dniiedin. now has its headquarters in tins city, with a branch in Otago's capital and j agencies at Napier, Wellington. Christ.- I church, Timaru and invereargiil. ! UP-TO-DATE PLANT. j An inspection of the shop and factory | premises in Lome Street reveals that i Hoap and Simm have got the tyre re- : treading and vulcanising business down | to a fine art. They use the accepted I dry-cure method. A worn tyre is lirst j put through the buffer machine, where ; the old rubber 'is scraped otV, and the j canvas surface cleaned and roughed. This is painted with a rubber solution which is left to dry, the idea being to remove all solvent matter and to leave the rubber to bind with the re-tread. i which is available in strips and sizes to suit different tyres. This combination ruhlier is known in the trade as
"Camel Hack," which is rolled on to the tyre in such a way as to exclude air between it and the solution on Hip canvas. The tyre is then set in a mould and clamped down and a great drypressure exerted, so that the tyre i<; soon re-treaded and quite as good, if not a good deal better and more durable. than the original tyre surface. Messrs. Boag and Simm find that once a motorist has used and tested a re-tread tyre he needs no invitation to return, because he realises the saving in tyre cost. The firm repairs all tyre cover damage, blowouts, bead tears* and other work. OTHER EQUIPMENT. The firm also has equipment for the vulcanising of all kinds of rubber rollers, whilst a hoot-vulcanising -plant, the tirst in Auckland, enables them to repair in first class style any kind of rubber 'hoot or shoe. Messrs. Boag and Simm, Ltd., are sole agents in Auckland province for Coast tyres and tubes, and for Oliver Vulcanising materials, and they are also Miller stockists.
