STEAMER VINTA DELAYED.
EXPECTED TO SAIL TO-NIGHT.
The steamer Vinita has been delayed at the Western Wharf for a couple ofdays pending the settlement of a dispute which arose between the consignees and the owners concerning the condition of case oil from San Pearo. Oil from that port was loaded by the Vinita just before clearing the United States coast for Auckland, and was discharged here on Monday and Tuesday. It is claimed that the condition of the oil when loaded would have justified a special mention in the bill of lading, but a clean bill of lading was granted. The delay is particularly unfortunate in happening at Auckland, where the quantity of cargo discharged amounted to only 10,000 cases of oil and about 300 tons of general cargo; meanwhile a ship load of cargo is being delayed in delivery; for large quantities of timber are on board for consignees at Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. They total about 2,500,000 feet. It is hoped, however, that the Vinita will sail this evening for Adelaide direct.
