OBSOLETE SUBMARINES.
NOT AW ANTED IN AUSTRALIA. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Minister of Defence explains that it has been decided to sell the submarines presented by the British Government, as they are obsolete, and the cost of repairs and alterations would be out of proportion to their length of life. Dealing with the personnel, the Minister said that some would be transferred to other branches of the Navy, and others returned to England.— (A. and N.Z. Cajale.)
