SUMNER DEAF SCHOOL.

RETIREMENT OF DIRECTOR. (By Telejraf,-.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mr. J. E. Stevens. Director of the School for the Deaf at Sumner, retires from that position to-day, and will leave for England with Mrs. Stevens tomorrow. Mr. Stevens, who has retired on superannuation at his own request, has studied the science of speech for 36 years, and remarkable success has been achieved at Sumner, where Mr. J. M. P>. Crawford succeeds him as director.
