THE NATIONAL PARK.

(To the JCditef.) Sir, —Tt seeroe a thousand pities that the question of finance prevents the Government from building attractive modern hostel? in. keeping with the nobility and arandeur of our worldfamed heritage* Tpnjfariro Park, the princely gift of one of Msoriland'e most generous oitizene, Tβ Heu Heu, of Tokaanu. A thought occurred to Pie that the money might be found to build a substantial comfortable hnte.l on a site to be selected by the National Park Committee recently appointed -by the Government, if residents of Now Zealand who intend visiting the Park sooner or later, would purchase debentures, the money obtained in this manner to be spent in building and furnishing hostela only, The debentures would be available as payment at any time for hotel accommodation, and opuld 'be made transferable. In this manner the Government would be relieved from financing the cost af buildipg something infinitely more attractive than the shed-like huts. Another suggestion I would like to submit to the lovers of the great outdoors is to build a distinctive railway station for the National Park only, The station for the Yellowstone Park in America is built entirely of logs. Cannot New Zealand, world famous for its forests, build a similar station? It would be a unique land mark on the Main Trunk line, and would,, appeal hugely to the Dominionborn and visitors from overseas. Following on the great Rangatir* Te Heu Heu's magnificent gitt to the people of both race 3, surely we can follow his lead in a minor degree and do something also for the benefit of our fellows. A Tongariro National Park League might "he formed, embracing the whole of the Dominion to work and develop this unrivalled playground. I trust that the few suggeitione outlined above will m some small degree re-create public interest, and lead to other proposals being made to deal in a most befitting manner with Te Heu Heu's magnificent and priceless gift to hie fellow MaorilaudeM—l en, etc., GKO. PARK. Hamilton.
