THE ROTORUA SHOW.

A FINE DISPLAY. SOME OF THE AWARDS. (By Telegraph.—Sneclal to "Star.") ROTORUA, this day. The annual show of the Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held to-day in Arawa Park, where the accommodation was most suitable for an effective display of the various sections. The jockey club's grandstand and other buildings besides marquees were utilised for the staging of the separate sections. This show is yearly assuming added importance owing to the steady growth of the district, and the realisation of the productivity of the soil. As instancing the rapid strides made in dairying, it may be remarked that the local dairy factory started years ago with a production of ninety tons of butter. The first year (last year) the output of butter had increased to three hundred tons, while this year over four hundred tons of butter were produced. This is illustrative of the expansion that has taken place in practically all other directions. The potentialities of the country around Rotorua are now fully recognised and admitted, a pleasing feature being the enthusiasm and unbounded confidence in which _ettlers for miles around refer to the present situation and prospects of a great agricultural and dairying future of this part of Auckland Province.

The first show of the' association was held in 1010 under the presidency of Mr. David Lundon, now of Auckland, and was continued for four years, when the 1913 fixture resulted in financial loss owing to heavy rain experienced. Mr. T. H. Sloane then was president for a second term. The fixture lapsed, but was resuscitated in 1919, Mr. J. Banks being president, successive holders of that office being Messrs. W. J. Scott, W. H. Smith, and now Mr. C. W. S. Gee. With one exception (the late W. H. Smith) all thjse were present at to-day's show, which was officially opened by the patron Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P. All remarked with pardonable pride on the great increase in number and improved standard of the exhibits over previous exhibitions.

There are numerous displays of sheep, cattle and horses of splendid qualit3% while the pavilion exhibits are both numerous and most creditable to exhibitors.

The judge of the pig exhibits, Mr. Fred. Smith, of Old Taupo Road, Rotorua, remarked that thougii the entries in this section were larger than a year ago, the number of pigs in the district warranted still larger exhibits. As dairying improved so should the pig section. The quality shown was very good, while the conditions under which the animal? were prepared for the show were excellent, reflecting the utmost credit on the exhibitors. The exhibition of baconers, porkers and weaners this year in addition to pedigree stock was commended. The interest and enthusiasm shown and quality exhibited should encourage the addition of further classes in future.
