TREE TRUNK SIGHTED.
FLOATING "WEST OF THREE KINGS. DANGER TO SHIPPING. A floating tree trunk which constitutes n considerable danger to shipping off the New Zealand coast was sighted from the Omaroa, en route from Auckland to Sydney. Captain W. J. Wyllie, master of the steamer, transmitted a radio to the superintendent of mercantile marine at Auckland on Saturday in the following terms: "Sighted trunk of tree 25 feet long, 5 feet diameter, covered with shells, in lat. 34 deg. ]7min. south, and long , . 169deg. 55min. east. Wind west-north-west, moderate 'breeze. Current east-north-eaet, half a knot." The position given by Captain Wyllie is a little to the north of a point 120 miles due west of the Three Kings; and according to the direction in which the current is runningthe tree trunk should pass considerably north of the North Cape.
