BUSINESS PLACES DESTROYED. (KeceiTed 11.31) a.m.) SYDNEY", this day. Five shops in Monaro Street. Queanheyan, were destroyed by fire, the damage being estimated at £30,000. The premises affected were:—W. Hill, general stores; J. Taylor, draper: YV. Oldfield, auctioneer: Recce and Short, drapers and stationers: R. Kaye, motor garage. When the fire was discovered two buckets of water would have extinguished it, but the tanks weVe dry. The local fire brigade was quickly in attendance, but the engine was out of order, and two hours elapsed before a itart was made on the fire.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.) MELBOURNE, this day. A three-storey cork factory occupied by the Cork and Crown Seal Company, at North Fitzroy. was destroyed by fire on Saturday, the damage being estimated at £40,000.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
