RESTRICTION OF LOTTERIES. SYDNEY, this day. The Lotteries Art Union Act, which comes into force on January 1, prohibits the conduct of raffles and sweeps in New South Wales without special permission, and also bars the sale of tickets in sweeps conducted outside the State. — (A. and N.Z. A PALM FROM FRANCE.
MELBOURNE, this day. The commander and officers of the French squadron were officially entertained at luncheon by the Federal Parliament. Mr. Wm. H. Hughes was presented with a palm by Admiral Gilly as a token of France's appreciation of Australia's assistance in the Great War. — (A and N.Z. (able.)
