FOUR ROUNDS PLAYED. (By Teiegranh—Pre«s Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Thureday. The chess tournament wae continued to-ifiy, the position of the players at the end of the fourth round being as follows: —
The third round resulted ac follows:— Miller r. Roberts: The former gained an advantage, but Roberts played such a sound defence that Miller had to be content with a draw. Pihl v. Stevens: This game was a Queen's gambit declined. Stevens eventually resigned. Buchan v. Coombs: Toward the close Biiehan broke down his opponent's defence and forced him to resign. Dunlop v. McCrea: Thie game mas also a Queen's gambit declined. Dunlop obtained a strong advantage and MoCrea resigned. Hicka v. Severne: After clever play Severne was forced to resign. The fourth round was also .decided and resulted: — Anderson v. Coombs: At the 26th move Anderson was able to force Coombs' resignation. Stevens v. Buchan: Th'c latter gained the advantage and forced Stevens' resignation on mov.e 3.1. Miller v. Hicks: This was a Queen'? gambit declined. Hicks won on the 50th move. Pihl v. Dunlop: The latter outmanoeuvred Pihl and won the game.
