NEW ZEALAND'S GIFT. MAYOR'S THANKS. (From Onr Special Correspondent.) LONDON, Nov. 2. The following is a translation of the letter which the High Commissioner, Sir James Allen, has just received from the Mayor of Longueval:— Dear Sir,—l have much pleasure in acknowledging receipt of your kind letter with which you transmit to mc a cheque for 1500 francs for the poor of Longueval. Your generous gift went straight to mv heart, for I must confess that of all i the British Empire only New Zealand has not forgotten our little unfortunate village which was ruined 'by the terrible war. New Zealand was the first to deliver us from the German yoke and again New Zealand is the first to assist us in rebuilding our old village and the first to heal the wounds of a poor abandoned commune. Our gratitude to the sons of New Zealand will be unbounded. We shall never forget the immense sacrifice made—never forget our generous benefactors.
