DOMINION'S TRADE.
RECOVERY FROM SLUMP. MR. R. W. DALTON'S REPORT. LONDON, November 16. Mr. R. \V. Ualtcn (lntc British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand), reporting on New Zealand trade, emphasises the recuperative power of the Dominion. Owing to Xew Zealand's size, he says, any slight improvement in conditions in the United Kingdom is reflected by much greater improvement in New Zealand trade. The moratorium on mortgages . ! and deposits undoubtedly saved the i Dominion from a very severe financial • crisis. .Meanwhile heavy stock of imports have been largely liquidated without i important disaster. Tlie cost of living is falling, and a . feeling of confidence is spreading. i Though 1022 imports will show a heavy i decrease, firms may confidently expect increases of business in the next 18 months. Mr. Dalton points out that the new tariff is a practical expression of New Zealand's desire to trade with Britain to the fullest possible extent.— (A. and J N.Z. Cable.)
