TAXIS IN QUEEN STREET.
OVERCROWDING OF STANDS. A request by the Auckland taxiowners that the number of motors permitted to stand on the principal taxiranks in the city be limited, as they were already overcrowded, has resulted in a return being made by the trafficinspector showing that from the five. ranks along the length of Queen Street no less than 146 taxis ply for hire, where six years ago there were 59. The stand at ( ustoms Stre_et'East had all tihe taxis it could reasonably hold, he said, that at Victoria Street was overcrowded, but he thought more of the vehicles could be ranked in Customs Street West, and Wellenlcy Street West. The Quay street stand had been limited to six This matter will be tfhe subject of recommendations from the works committee of the City Council in a fortnight's time.
