TWO OLD COLONISTS. | This week two ladies who were old j residents bf New Zealand died. One was Mrs. Martha Young, aged H4 years, I who resided at Heme Bay. Deceased I w-aa the widow of the late Mr. .lohn j Young, of Port Ahuriri, Napier. Born lat Guernsey, she went to Australia, and I ten years later came to Hokitika. That I was s«t years ago. Mrs. Young spent ! the evening of her days in Auckland. j She wan the mother of thirteen children: ' There arc 37 grandchildren and 70 j greatgrandchildren." Meddens I Heme j Bay i, nnd Mrs. Grant, sen., of Onehunga. MRS. C. MARKHAM. i The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Markham took placp this morning. Deceased, who was in nor ninelieth year, died at the residence of her son. Mr. C. T. i Reade, .Jervois Road. Heme Kay. Mrs. Markham was born in Ireland. At an early age she went to New York, anil in l'Bol was mfirrie'd to Mr. T. Reade, I who was killed two years later in the I American Civil War at the battle of i I haneelloreville. where General "Stonej wall" Jackson also lost his life. In I 1:465 deceased came to Auckland in the ship Siam. nnd was married shortly i afterwards to Mr. Markham. who died iat New Plymouth in 18U7. The late I Mr. R. .1. Creigliton, who represented Newton in the Auckland Provincial Council from 1805 to 1H73, was a I brother of Mrs. Deceased is survived by one son.
