TRIAL MARRIAGES.
A CLERGYMAN'S SUGGESTION. UNPLEDGED RELATIONS. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 18. The Eer. R. F. Horton, speaking at the international conference on reaffirmation of the world's moral ideal, declared that wnile Western civilisation for many centuries had adopted monogamy as an axiom, it was to-day violated in practice and disputed in theory. Mr. Horton asked: "Is it to be monogamy or polygamy? Haa marriage any sanction or not ? Would it be better to marry on trial and serve a novitiate before entering into permanent vows? J\ould unpledged relations lasting during mutual consent avoid the frictions of marriage and cave tlie world from the disgusting details of the Divorce Court?"—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
