STREET LIGHTING.
NEWMARKET'S REQUIREMENTS •fO APPROACH POWER BOARD. The need for improvement of street lighting at Xewmarket was referred to at the meeting of the Borough Council last, evening, when the Mayor (Mr. Donaldson i said the matter was not only one which affected the borough, hut the business community of the district. He considered that the borough had waited patiently and that the time was opportune to appoint a committee to wait on the Power Board. The improvement was one which the council was definitely entitled to under its agreement with the City Council, and he did not see how Mr. A. Wvjlie, .engineer to the Power Board, coufd avoid fulfilling the promise made to the council before he went abroad. The borough had not worried the authorities on the subject.
The council decided to relegate the question to the Streets Committee to act, the Mayor adding that it was only a matter of putting up the standards to conform with the reticulation being put in operatiun by the Power Board.
