Seeing that the widening of High ' Street i= just about to be undertaken, it is of interest to rellect that residents in the very early days realised the importance of the work being carried out. A lady at present residing at Uevonport. who was born in Auckland 81 years ago, states that her father owned a section in Hig-h Street. He, with the other property owners in Hhjh Street, waited upon the local government with the suggestion that O'Connell Street, which was an unimproved track, should be closed, and a re-survey made, adding the width to High Street, all their properties heing pushed hack the width of the track that was to be done away with. Bishop Liston will open a bazaar in the new Catholic Church and school at Banff Avenue Epsom, to-morrow at 2.3(1 p.m. Misses Beresford's pupils will give exhibitions of dancing and musical items on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
