A SERIOUS CHARGE.
WELL-KNOWN TBAIXER IN THE DOCK. Hugh Telford, a well-known horsetrainer, of Trcntham, was charged in the Magistrate's Court at Wellington on Friday, says the "Dominion," with having had immoral relations with a girl less than sixteen years of age. Mr. Hunt was on the Bench. The police applied for a remand to June 21. Mr. O'Leary. for the accused, asked for bail. Telford, l be said, had many business matters) to attend to, and was ill charge of very valuable horses.
Chief Detective Kemp said that there had been bad feeling between Telford and his wife over the case, and the wife had complained that she was in fear of pergonal violence from the accused. In fixing bail the Bench might take that into consideration.
Mr. O'Lcary said that Telford would gi-.o the Court any undertaking it might require regarding bis conduct toward bis wife.
The Magistrate: Will he undertake, to go nowhere near his wife* Accused: Absolutely.
Mr. Kemp: I don't think he will have any difficulty in getting substantial ball.
The Bench fixed 'bail at £rm and remanded Telford till June 21.
