WARKWORTH NOTES.
TOWN BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Warkwortb Town Board met on Friday. The foreman reported that the ram which had been installed to pump water for the reservoir was not powerful | enough, aud that the agents were sending j down a more powerful ram, which they I guaranteed would do the work required. A j deputation of residents from I-ilburn Street urged the need for repairs. It was decided to inspect the street and do necessary I work. Xotlee was given of intention to strike a consolidated rate of 2 0-lud in the £ on the capital value of the district. I There was a wide difference of opinion as to whether the general rate should be l.d 1 or 2d In the £, the matter being decided by the casting vote of the chairman in favour of l_d. Advice was received from the State Advances Office that the prece- \ dent consent of the Governor-Gcneral-ln-Councll had been granted In connection with the loan of £500 for drainage extension. Scenic Reserve.—A public meeting In connection with the acquisition of Hall's bush as a scenic reserve was held on Thursday. It was stated that Wilsons Portland Cement Company held mineral rights over ' the area, and that they could at any time i enter In and work the limestone, which | would destroy the hush. The company had i been asked !o forego these rights If the | ground was used as a scenic reserve. A reply was to hand that the company could not see their way to forego these rights. I Under these circumstances the Government would not take over the land. It was ' agreed to appoint a committee to confer l with Mr. Hall, and endeavour to arrange a lease of the freehold, so as to preserve the bush as long as possible, and In the j hope that in a few years' time the Wilson Company might alter their opinion. Rodney Agricultural Society.—A committee meeting was held on Saturday night when Mr. E. Pickering was elected chairman for the ensuing year. A strong executive committee was elected. The date of tbe next show was fixed for Saturday, February 10. 1323. A delegate was appointed to a conference of representatives of surrounding A. and P. societies to be I held nt Wellsford to disenss matters of I mutual interest In regard to shows. i
