MARKINGS ON MARS. SUGGESTION OF LIFE. (■Received I.SO p.m.) NEW YORK, June 11. American observatories have announced that. Mars on the 10th inst. passed through a point of its orbit directly opposite the sun from eatrtli. On the ISth of this muith it will be closer to the earth by several millions of miles than at any" time since 1000.
Professor Slipper, who is conducting observations, asserts that Mars shows the existence, of certain essentials of life, water atmosphere, and a temperature above- the freezing point. He believes it is ant-ply proven that the markings, which show darker in summer, suggest life in the form of vegetation.— (Renter.)
