A serious warning respecting the cut■tjng down of defence expenditure was made by General Russell when speaking at the Returned Sohiiers" Association's gathering on Saturday nUht. General Russell said: "Ono cannot but feel that. in face ot economic 'iifTveulties, the country i> (lilting expenditure, .-o far a.5 defence i- concerned, down to the a.b~oliitc. if not iidoiv. the si'!»oliitp minimum. A' no di.-tant date it will ho necessary to reconsider whether the youth of thic country are getting that 'instruction to make it safe for them to take up the work of fighting. I don't, and you don't want to see 3-our younger brothers, or it may be your sons, goina into a show with just that small amount ot instruction and knowledge which will mean that they are advancing into what may prove to be a 'butchery."
