C.E.M.S.
CONFERENCE WORK IN MELANESIA. The conference of the Church of England Men's Society sat yesterday afternoon in the St. Matthew's schoolroom. The Bishop of Auckland and the Bishop of Melanesia were present at the beginning of the session, the. former congratulating the delegates and the latter delivering a most interesting address upon missionary work. Mr. A. T. Harrison presided. As for the future the speaker said the mission hoped for a jrreat extension of tlie work. Many islands had been under German control, and there was very considerable scope for the work there. The two important works before the mission now were the training up of a native ministry and the education of the girls and young women so that they could take the.r own rightful place.
