POLICE COURT.

■George Thompson, a -well-known character, wae before the Court charged with being an idle and disorderly person, found by night within enclosed premises. Mr. J. J. Sullivan made a plea for the accused. Thompson, he eaid, lived at Otahuhu when he was not in gaol. Hβ was only released from Mount Eden on Thursday, but had work to go to to-day. He aeked the Bench not to send the man to gaol again, but to give him a chance. "There is always danger of fire from men sleeping surreptitiously about premises," eaid Mr. Poynton. "However, I've no wish to send him to gaol if he can get work." Thompson was convicted and discharged. Henry Nichol Sadler (42), who described himeelf ac a sailor out of em-
ployment, pleaded guilty to the theft of
money and jewellery from a boarding" house in Victoria Street, There wera four charges, and Sadler was remanded for sentence until Friday, SeniorSergeant Rawle observing that he wished to make some inquiries regarding 'the man at Cambridge, where lie had previously been staying.
