MATCHES IN SYDNEY. MISS CURTIS PLAYS WELL. SYDNEY, April 23. The first of the inter-State tennis matches wa? completed yesterday, New South Wales ladies gaining a two to one victory over the New Zealandcrs. With the exception of Miss Curtis, none of the New Zealanders showed their best form, the climate and courts telling against them. In the singles, Mrs. Lascelles lost to Miss Curtis (New Zealand), .'i—6.,6 —1, 10—12: Miss St. George beat Miss Maifarlane (New Zealand). B—3, S—«, 6-1: Mis* Lloyd lost to Miss Payton (New Zealand), 7 —«, 5—7, 4—6; Miss Gray beat Miss Wellwood I New Zealand). 6— i, 6—.'i.
In 1 lie doubles, Mts. Lascelles and Miss St. George beat Misses Macfnrlane anil Payton, C—l. 6 —l; Misses Gray and Lloyd beat Misses Wellwood and Curtis. ft- _, 6—2.
