CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
A DISPUTE SETTLED.
The Conciliation Council proceedings concerning the demands of tailoresses and other female clothing trade employees (silk shirt and white workers) were concluded by Mr. P. Hally (Conciliation Commissioner) on Saturday, when an agreement was arrived at in connection with wages and the proportion of apprentices to journeywomen.
It was decided that journeywomen should receive s £2 per week, with a bonus of 5/ per week. The chart workers, stock cutters, etc., and apprentices are to receive the wages asked for, which were published yesterday. There is io be no limitation to the proportion of apprentices to journeywomen. The whole of the wages are subject to any pronouncement made by the Arbitration Court. The award is to be for a period of two years, and will come into force from the date of the court's pronouncement regarding the cost of living bonus. The assessors expressed sympathy with Mr. T. Harle Giles, who is at present indisposed.
The chemists assistants' dispute will be taken by Mr. P. Hally at 10.15 a.m. on Monday.
