ORANGE GRAND LODGE.

LOYALTY TO THE CROWN. CANDIDATES FOR PARLIAMENT. The Orange Grand Lodge continued its sitting yesterday and to-day. Prior to proceeding with business, the R.W.G.M. announced the regrettable news that the condition of the D.G.M,, W. Bro. T. T. 1 Garland, had become so serious as to necessitate hjs removal to hospital. A motion was carried conveying sympathy to Bro. Garland and his wife. The rommittce on travelling expenses presented its report, with recommendations. On the niotion of R.W. Bro. A. Donald, P.G.M., the Grand Lodge expressed its appreciation of the magnificent address delivered by the R.W. Grand Master at the Town Hall on Sunday, and tendered him thanks for same. Ft was further resolved that a supply of the pamphlet "Warring Against Christianity" be forwarded to all lodges. Wellington and Dunedin each presented an invitation for next session to be held in their city. On the vote being taken,, the invitation to 1 Dunedin was accepted. ' The order paper was proceeded with. A series of resolutions was submitted providing for the establishment of an Orphans' Fund. R.W. Grand Chaplain Bro. G. Aickin had charge of this subject, and his lucid explanation of the matter enabled members very quickly to come to a decision to establish the fund. Various proposals for alterations to rules were dealt with. RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED. The Public Questions Committee reported recommending the following resolutions, which were all adopted:— Inspection of Institutions: "That this Grand Lodge, being firmly of opinion that. persons have been and arc being detained again-t their will in certain institutions in New Zealajnd, calls "upon the Government to introduce and piss into law such legislation as wi,l prohibit such, involuntary servitude, and also provide for the ' inspection of duly appointed Government inspectors of euch institutions; and, fur- ■ ther, where industries arc being carried on, same §hall be brought within the scope of the labour legislation of the ' Dominion." ' Educational Privilegep: "That in the interests of the national system of education, tbe Mipister of Education he urged to introduce legislation withdrawing rail,way concessions to all children where such children travel past national schools." Sympathy With Ulster: "That this Grand Lodge assembl-d in session al • Auckland, place on record their appreciation of apd affirm their support with and ; their deepest sympathy toward, our ! Ulster brethren in the trying and difficult times through which they are at present ' passing. . While we deplore <.he campaign of murder and outrage being carried on 1 by Sinn Fein extremists, we admire the J forbearance and loyalty displayed by our 1 brethren, and assure thens of our continued support." Mixed Marriages: "That it be a recom--1 mendation to Grand Executive to pre- | pare- and distribute suitable pamphlets on the evils of mixed marriages with a view to in some measure meeting the ; destruction of Protestant homes and the rendering ineffective of- so many of cur Protestant men and women." Orangeism and Citizenship: "The Loyal Orange Institution, having for its first foundation principle loyalty to the , Throne and C onßt ' tu t ; ' on of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and her dependencies, the Grand Lodge : of. New Zealand calls upon every member of the Institute in the Dominion to resist with every means in its power the etlorts ■ of those who by their acts and utterances arc endeavouring to overthrow the Constitution; this Grand Lodge urges that - this can best be attained by a most s active and open practice of the principles -of our Institution, thus setting an f example to our fellow citizens, together ' with a more active interest in union 1 work by those brethren who are members ■ of trade unions." t Loyalty in Schools: "That this Grand I Lodge tenders ita congratulations to the ■ Minister of Education upon the intro--1 duction into the public schools of the • practice of regularly saluting the flag, 1 and upon his introduction of the taking ; of the' oath, of allegiance as necessary - procedure for all school teachers." 1 History in Schools: "That the Minisr ter of Education be urged to make British ! history a compulsory subject for senior . and junior national scholarships, Erfuca--1 tion Board scholarships, and Public Scr- - vice examinations, and to ensure that the i text books used in our schools are of that • class calculated to inculcate love of Empire and loyalty to the flag." ' Civil Servants and Labour Affiliation: . "That in the best interests of the public, . and for the efficient maintenance of tn'» ! public services, the Government he urged ' to insist upon the principle, either by legislation or otherwise, that no Civil SeFvice Association be allowed to seek affiliation outside the service, this rule ' to apply to the employees of all departments of the State." Candidates for Parliament: "That the Government be requested to so amend the Electoral Act that no candidate for election to the House of Representatives shall be allowed to lodge his nomination papers with the returning officer until he has taken the oath of allegiance to the Crown and Constitution." Other resolutions expressed abhorrence of disloyal utterances, and called the earnest attention of the Government to these happenings, as well as to the propaganda of the Socialistic and Communistic Sunday schools. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: Grand master, Bro. the Rev. F. G. dimming; deputy grand master, W. Bro. J. McDonald Johnston; grand chaplain, W. Bro, the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxa.ll; grand treasurer, W. Bro. I. Macfarlane (re-elected); grand secretary, W. Bro. E. M. Budden (re-elected); grand foreman of committee, W. Bro. J. Chambers; director of ceremonies, W. Bro. Geo. Taylor; senior - deacon, Bro. G. Agnew; junior deacon, VV. Bro. T. T. Garland: inner guard, Bro. VV. Agnew; outer guard, W. Bro. E. J. Meredith; executive committee, W. Bros. Petherick, Noble, Putton, Donald, and Middleton. Grand committee: Messrs'.. Taylor, Steptoe, Hewitt, Davidson, White. Organist: D. A. Sommerville. j The R.W.G.M. referred to those brethren who had passed away during the past twelve months, and a short but most , impressive memorial service was held. The officers elected were installed into their respective positions by the R.W.G.M. (Bro. Knowles-Smith).
